Accuracy Solutions is dedicated to providing its customers with high-quality products that not only enhance their rifle shooting experience but allow them to improve their shooting ability in an effective and fun way. Since extending the resting point of your bipod is a relatively new way of doing things, there are a few questions we want to answer for you.
Yes, but in a very few instances special adaptations may be needed. Please read on.
Tactical Rifles: BipodeXt is designed to attach to a Picatinny rail. Many tactical rifles already have a Picatinny rail along the bottom of the forend, but if yours does not, it can easily be fitted with one and is provided in your case. BipodeXt installation only takes a few minutes and is done with simple hand tools (often a screwdriver and/or Allen wrench is all that is needed)
Hunting Rifles: BipodeXt is designed to attach to a Picatinny rail, thus the forend of the receiving rifle must be fitted with one. Adapting a Picatinny rail to the forend of a hunting‑style rifle may require that holes be drilled into the stock’s forend. If you are comfortable working on your rifle and own power tools, such as a table drill, you should be able to adapt a Picatinny rail to your rifle in one to two hours.* A tilted rail is included in the case which creates an attachment point parallel to your barrel.
*WARNING: If you do not possess the skills and necessary tools you should NOT attempt any modifications to your rifle yourself. Instead, take your gun to a qualified gunsmith. The work should take no more than two hours.
It comes factory-set to receive both Atlas and Harris types of bipods. You could even have both bipods attached simultaneously, should you so chose. This means that BipodeXt ships with a pre-installed sling stud and 2.1/8″ (52mm) Picatinny rail.
When we began testing the product this was the first question everyone asked because of the size and stance of the product. They were all pleased to find out model BXT 34X2 is only 18 oz. We achieved this by using high-quality carbon fiber tubing which is lightweight and rock solid.
The answer(s) to this question will be obvious to some readers, but perhaps not so to all readers. The reason you do not want to attach the BipodeXt to your barrel is because you wouldn’t be happy with your shooting performance.
As a fired bullet travels through the barrel, it (the barrel) is subjected to a dynamic oscillation known as barrel harmonics. Though not really perceivable to the naked eye, the barrel experiences an oscillating movement as the bullet traverses it. A good video on barrel harmonics can be seen here.
Free Floating Barrels
Expanding on the above answer, knowledgeable shooters do what they can to keep their barrels free floating above their stock. What is a free‑floating barrel then? It is a barrel that does not touch the forend of the stock (though the forend embraces it). This allows the barrel to oscillate and thus play its harmonics. An explanation of free-floating barrels can be seen here.
To put it simply, for the best shooting experience, leave your barrel alone! Under most circumstances you should not affix or attach anything to your barrel, let it be free to play to its own tune.
Yes. Whether you will be installing it to a tactical or hunting rifle, or if you own a Harris or Atlas bipod, all necessary hardware is included. No tools, besides Allen wrenches, are included.
